playing m4a files

Tue Sep 28, 2004 7:16 pm
hi, amarok doesnt show my m4a files in files view, it's strange, because i can play them in kaffeine which also uses xine engine, so amarok could play them. dragging files on amarok window also doesn't work. is it possible to make amarok play m4a files (which are aac files as i suppose)
best regards
yemu

ps. amarok just gest better and better, it's amazing!!

As far as I know, this works with the gstreamer plugin for *.m4a files based on FAAD2. See the Freshmeat project page and also a thread on the Arch Linux forum:

xine is telling your amaroK it can't play the files. I'm not sure how to address this really. Hmm. I have some ideas I'll try for 1.2.

Xine-lib has to be compiled with the external FAAD2 library and the appropriate parameter for that. They don't come with an internal (and mostly outdated) libfaad version like mplayer does.

It's possible (at least using xine engine). But dragging files from konqueror shows a message saying "some URLs could not be loaded". So, you must edit manually the "current.xml" file (backup it first, so you won't lose information in case you don't do it correctly).

I forgot to mention that these files are not added to the collection.
