gstreamer, amarok and output sinks

Thu Sep 30, 2004 8:18 pm
I've used amarok with arts in the past successfully. From what I've read gstreamer has lower overhead and better performance so I though I'd give it a try. I haven't built gstreamer before nor used it. I don't have alsa or oss sound but use the i810_audio/ac97_codec drivers in the kernel. I don't have the option to switch to either oss or alsa since this is a work machine. Now the question: Is it worth configuring amarok for gstreamer given those conditions? Will I see a difference in performance? Also, find the command line I tested gstreamer with the artsdsink which I don't see listed as an output sink in amarok.

I would appreciate any explanation,

thanks

OK, after recompiling gst-plugins properly I get an osssink and amarok gives me sound with it if I disable sound in KDE. Is this normal or will this all work if I recompile kdemultimedia with gstreamer support?

thanks
