Hi,
Im using yesterdays cvs(looking brilliant guys ) I cannot play ogg files even though i have the necessary packages and gstreamer has it compiled in. It comes up "some urls cannot be loaded". I saw another post with this problem but it worked for him when he upgraded to like 1.1beta. Any suggestions to why its not working or what needs to be done? Id really like to get them working because, as i only found out recently, ogg is much better than mp3! (I had the same problem in 1.1.1 so its not just this one). |

You should check that you have a valid ogg file first:
at the prompt, type: [code:1] ogginfo -v filename.ogg [/code:1] That will tell you if you have a bad ogg file! |

I had this problem when using an old version of gstreamer and gst-plugins.
Problem gone with gstreamer 0.8.7 and gst-plugins 0.8.5 |

No, unfortunatly the ogg file is valid(it plays fine with other media players e.g xine) an im using up to date gstreamer and plugins..
 any other suggestions? |

You're simply missing the GStreamer vorbis plugin.
[code:1] gst-inspect-0.8 vorbisdec gst-inspect-0.8 oggdemux [/code:1] ..will show you whether it is actually installed.

Thanks markey! That must be it, those commands say no such element found. Where can i get the gstreamer vorbis plugin? I dont see it on the net. I have the normal vorbis plugin in rpm format-hence been able to encode and play with other players. Do i need to install from source to make gstreamer find it or is there a gstreamer plugin?

Someone here might happen to know, otherwise you might ask on a forum related to whatever distribution your using. Seems like you would get the gstreamer OGG Vorbis plugin the same place you got gstreamer.

Ya I was asking about it on the gstreamer channel and they said you just install the normal vorbis packages and gst-plugins will compile in support for it. There doesnt seem to be a specific gst plugin other than whats already in gst-plugins.
So i have the vorbis plugins installed for my distro and gst-plugins when compiling said that it was compiling support for vorbis. So why doesnt it seem to be there.. |

well, vorbis is a package and ogg vorbis an encoding. Maybe you didn't compile the plugin for ogg, but only vorbis? Anyways, whatever gstreamer said it compiled it obviously didn't install it, you might try compiling and installing the gstreamer plugins again. A lot of times the binary distros won't install the necesary header files to allow folks to compile againist installed libraries, so make sure you have all of those for ogg.

I got this sorted ages ago - just thought id post up in case anyone else was having the same prob and looking for a solution.
Mandrake 10.1 comes with gstreamer rpms and they were installed and conflicting with the source builds. once i uninstalled the rpms it gst-register picked up my source build that had all the plugins. and all is well  |
|
same problem here on SuSE 9.1 with Amarok beta1 and gstreamer 0.8. I did a gst-register and checked the presence of the ogg plugins, all are there. Arts works.
