Mad-Plugin is a standard dependency of amarok on gentoo, so it is installed. But it\'s the same problem with arts or xine. If you wish, I could send you a little demo file with such a file name to test it out by yourself. |

Hi,
I\'m not sure, if it\'s a bug or a feature... For may regards it\'s a bug. Every time I choose \"no sound driver\" (instead of arts, gstreamer or something), the files in the file browser disappear. It seems as if my complete harddrive onliy consists of directories and all files were wiped out. Furthermore, if I drag a mp3 i.e. from the context browser to the playlist, the title doesn\'t appear (formerly added titles are still there). By the way, whats the use of the \"no sound driver\" option? I thought there must be any driver to play a compressed audio file. So why can I choose this option? It makes no sense for me. Maybe, you have forgotten to remove this debug option in the release version. |

Ain\'t no bug. Filebrowser only shows media that your engine can actually decode. As void-engine cannot decode anything, Filebrowser does not show any files either.
Void-engine (\"No Engine\") is not meant for end users. It\'s a fallback that is automatically activated when no engine plugin can be loaded (a dummy). It has no functionality.

I\'m using CVS, and noted that while trying to get the arts engine working, failed, put in no engine, and then back to gstreamer. But then, I couln\'t see the mp3 files again. I can just add xm and other kind of files, but not mp3 (even while the one that is currently in the active playlist DOES work. Any hint about this or any system/build data request ?

Ok, that make sense. But, wouldn\'t it better to remove or hide the no sound driver option? This could wrongly suggest to use ALSA directly. And, if there\'s no use for the user, why should he be able to choose it? By the way, in amarok 1.1 and beneath, there was no problem to play utf-8 encoded files, but now this files are vanished using any sound driver, such like all files with "no sound driver" activated. |

Do you have the gstreamer mad plugin installed?
