amarokapp problem

Wed Dec 15, 2004 7:52 pm
Hi there. I\'m really interested in trying out amarok, but i can\'t get it to run on suse 9.1 on kde. Here\'s what happens:

[code:1]abraham@linux:~> amarok
[amaroK] Connecting to /home/abraham/.kde/socket-linux/amarok.loader_socket
[amaroK] Starting amarokapp..
[amaroK] If you want a backtrace, run gdb against amarokapp, not amarok!
amarokapp: error while loading shared libraries: amarokapp: undefined symbol: _ZTIN6TagLib5ID3v113StringHandlerE
[/code:1]

When i do a backtrace (according to the faq) here\'s what i get:
Code: Select all
[code]abraham@linux:~> gdb amarokapp
GNU gdb 6.1

This GDB was configured as \"i586-suse-linux\"...(no debugging symbols found)...Using host libthread_db library \"/lib/tls/libthread_db.so.1\".

(gdb) run
Starting program: /opt/kde3/bin/amarokapp
/opt/kde3/bin/amarokapp: error while loading shared libraries: /opt/kde3/bin/amarokapp: undefined symbol: _ZTIN6TagLib5ID3v113StringHandlerE

Program exited with code 0177.
(gdb) bt
No stack.
(gdb)

Any help would be greatly appreciated as I really want to run this program.

This looks like your TagLib (libtag) is too old. Update to a recent version (1.3.1 or so) and try it again.

That did it! Thanks alot. Though how you knew that my taglib was too old from that output, i\'ll never know.

Thanks again
