No sound with dmix. Heavy CPU usage

Thu Dec 16, 2004 10:05 am
I have struggled with the install of amarok from cvs for several hours now, but I refuse to give up.

The engine is configured to use gstreamer/alsasink.
I had problems with a heavy cpu load (100%), so I wen\'t to the FAQ and found that I should install dmix, which I did with help from this HOWTO:
http://opensrc.org/alsa/index.php?page=DmixPlugin
If I run
alsaplayer -o alsa -d plug:hwmix some.mp3
it works fine.

But when I enter \"hwmix\" as device for the engine, I just won\'t play anymore. However, it still uses a huge amount of cpu.

Any suggestions?

My .asoundrc file (I have an Audiophile card):
pcm.hwmix {
type dmix
ipc_key 10000
ipc_key_add_uid false
slave {
pcm \"hw:0,0\"
period_size 1024
periods 8
}
}

pcm.dsp0 {
type plug
slave.pcm \"hwmix\"
}

And I forgot: If I instead type \"dsp0\" as device, it plays, but still uses 100% CPU. :-(

I had the same problem with the 1.2-beta1&2.
Install the CVS-Version.
