Maybe you could use a workaround, I use KHotkeys to send commands to amarok via DCOP - works fine.

Thanks for your replies, I created a new user and it works fine for him, so it\'s just a matter of time until I figure it out. I\'ll write the solution here, maybe someone else will encounter this problem.

I\'m using amaroK and some sort of combination of 3.3.2 and 3.3.1 KDE and the global shortcuts don\'t work for me either, only when the window has focus.

But yes, using KHotkeys is the workaround. I\'ve been using KHotkeys from before amaroK had global shortcuts.

I recenly upgraded to KDE 3.3.2 (on Gentoo), and i found out that Global Shortuts don\'t work: they work as ordinary shortcuts (ie. only when Amarok window has focus). I tried to recompile Amarok, install 1.2beta1, but it\'s still the same. Does anybody else have this problem?

I\'m on Gentoo using Fluxbox and it works fine for me...

I found a workaround form my problem, maybe it will help others:
The problem wasn\'t the upgrade to KDE 3.3.2, but that I created my own keyboard layout. I have Num Lock permanently on, so I disabled the modifier function (\"clear mod2\" in xmodmap). And when Amarok is started after this modification, Global Shortcuts cease to work. I had to set some key as mod2, eg. \"add mod2 = Mode_switch\".

I looked briefly to the source code, and the bug is probably in KDE itself, not Amarok. Amarok only uses KGlobalAccel class. Unfortunately I don\'t have any other app which uses Global Shortcuts and time to try to find out more.
