configure --prefix no kde

Tue Jan 04, 2005 6:25 pm
I am a newbie to linux Installed SimplyMepis ...like Mepis ..but not the sound players it came with xmms and realplayer so here I am .....

I downloaded file to

tar:/home/flebber/Shared/amarok-1.2-beta2.tar.bz2/

I fistly tried to change to /home/flebber/Shared/amarok...and other variation after amarok

but I figure perhaps I am suppossed to uncompress the file first and then go to base directory of amarok is this right and if so how...

cheers and happy 2005

Re:stupidest question ever

well, not the stupiest. You need to unpack amaroK, the command is:
tar -xjvf ~/amarok-1.2-beta2.tar.bz2

The gui for tar is named a program called ark, or you can drag and drop stuff out of konqueror.

After you do that, you can follow the directions in the appendix of the Handbook on this website.

*pokes madpenguin8 to add stuff about untarring*

configure error

Tue Jan 04, 2005 11:20 pm
thanks still stuck in install however, I extracted using (ark) and changed to the base directory as below:

root@mepis1:/home/flebber/Shared/Amarok/amarok-1.2-beta2

then after typed ./configure --prefix=`kde-config --prefix` then it unpacked it came up with a qt error so I installed that and now this error, is this something I can fix

checking if Qt needs -ljpeg... no
checking for rpath... yes
checking for KDE... configure: error:
in the prefix, you\'ve chosen, are no KDE headers installed. This will fail.
So, check this please and use another prefix!

currently unable to install amarok as the kdelibs-dev is currently unavailable thru kpackage synaptic and root terminal apt-get the package kdelibs4 4:3.2.3-4 needed to install amarok returns couldn\'t find package.

Any ideas cannot install Amarok without this package apparently....

I have tried installing amarok thru apt-get for amarock 1.1.1 but still same kdelibs error ..

Hi Flebber,

I am getting the exact same problem as you. In fact I attempted to install the kdevlibs package and ended up erasing half of KDE ! I really would like to try amaroK but it nots worth doing that again. So I will wait until I find some more help on a forum like this or until the repository is updated.

root@mepis1:/home/flebber/Shared/Amarok/amarok-1.2-beta2

Ok, stupid question: why root? You only need to be root when you make install, or am I wrong?
Maybe it doesn\'t matter

But it seems like Flebber is running ./configure as root? Does that matter?

It might. Sometimes PATHs aren\'t setup correctly as root. So you should run ./configure and make as a normal user.
