gstreamer + alsa = crash or "device is busy"

Hello!

I´ve been trying to set up my amarok correctly for several hours but without any success by now. Perhaps someone in this forum can help me ;-)

I´m using an Asus A7N8X-E Mainboard connected to my amp via spdif. The Problem is that i can´t tell Amarok to use the digital spdif-output. Instead of that I can only let Amarok play through the standard analog output of my on-board soundcard.

Until now, I used xmms to play my music. There, the Alsa-output-Plugin could be easily configured to use the right sound device. Via drop-down-menu I´m able to choose between \"default\" (analog output) and \"hw:0,2\" (digital output through spdif).

In order to get my amarok running with spdif-output, i set up the gstreamer-sound sytem using the alsasink-plugin. I also tried entering \"/dev/dsp0\" as hardware device to use by that sound system. But the only reaction i got by that amarok was either a crash or an error-message saying \"alsa device \"/dev/dsp\" is already in use by another program\".

Does anybody of you have an idea, what I could do?
OR: is there any way to make the standard-arts-driver use my spdif-output?

Thanks a lot for any Hint =)

Ciao, Franz

Hmm... you could try to remove /dev/dsp (should only be a symlink pointing to your analog port) and create a new /dev/dsp symlink which points to your digital out.

This would lead to every sound which was played on analog before (via /dev/dsp) to be played on the digital one.
