Jerky song changes :\

Wed Mar 23, 2005 1:22 pm
Alright, I love amaroK, and will continue to use it despite this glaring issue.. However, I\'ve been having issues with song changes..

When a song is about to end, sometimes it chokes for a few seconds (this seems to be somewhat better using the ESD gstreamer plugin, but still exists).. Then when the song begins to fade out, the next song does some weird things.. Rarely, it\'s a normal fade-in for the next song, but sometimes theres no audio and BAM! out of nowhere, 5 seconds into the song, its an audio explosion.. other times it\'ll fade into half volume and about 5-10 seconds into the song, it snaps to full volume..

Before you have the chance to ask, I have fade-in/fade-out set to 0msec. I love amaroK, and to be completely 100% absolutely positively completely nay-say-nano-duper-etely-inity-ley... okay...:\\ Back on my train of thought though, to be completely honest, this is the ONLY thing that would make me consider going back to XMMS and going back to my \'hunt a file, click it, hunt next, play next\' ways..

The audio snapping is really weird.. :\\

Could someone please tell me I\'m stupid and point me to a config file where I could adjust a buffer or *really* turn off crossfading?

From your post I understand that you are using the gstreamer engine. A bunch of fixes have been committed to CVS, so either switch engines, get cvs, or wait until the next release of amarok!

Thanks, I\'ll grab a CVS and see how that works out.

More recent issue is X completely borking when I stop playback in amaroK, but before I bring any attention to that, I\'ll see how the CVS is.

I agree, I have had those same issues with anything higher than 1.2.2, this includes the CVS of two days ago.
The devs say they fixed the gstreamer issues but I still seem to have problems. Turning crossfade off totally seems to fix it.

Perchance, has this been fixed in svn yet? I\'m using 1.3b2 and I still seem to have this same problem. I would turn off crossfading, but frankly, I like crossfading. I would go back to using the arts engine, but it doesn\'t support L365.com broadcasts. I would use the xine engine, but that doesn\'t support crossfading! Just can\'t seem to win :-D
