Default playback device xine-engine

Fri Mar 25, 2005 8:13 pm
hi folks..

i use amarok 1.2.2 wth the xine-engine using alsa..

the problem is, that the alsa default playback device seems to change unregurarly.. i have 2 sound devices and want to playback using the same..

---> no sound program has problems with it (mplayer, gxine, xmms), they always catch the correct device..

only amarok seems to be confused and picks out the wrong the device, i\'ve to change the playback device in the engine settings on every second boot..

my modules.d/alsa file (not the entire)
[code:1]
# OSS/Free portion - card #1
alias sound-service-0-0 snd-mixer-oss
alias sound-service-0-1 snd-seq-oss
alias sound-service-0-3 snd-pcm-oss
alias sound-service-0-8 snd-seq-oss
alias sound-service-0-12 snd-pcm-oss
## OSS/Free portion - card #2
alias sound-service-1-0 snd-mixer-oss
alias sound-service-1-3 snd-pcm-oss
alias sound-service-1-12 snd-pcm-oss

# IMPORTANT!
alias snd-card-0 snd-intel8x0
alias snd-card-1 snd-ens1371
alias sound-slot-0 snd-card-0
alias sound-slot-1 snd-card-1

alias /dev/mixer snd-mixer-oss
alias /dev/dsp snd-pcm-oss
alias /dev/midi snd-seq-oss

# Set this to the correct number of cards.
options snd cards_limit=2
[/code:1]

my asound.conf (normal dmix-setup)
[code:1]
pcm.ossmix {
type dmix
ipc_key 1024
slave {
pcm \"hw:0,0\"
period_time 0
period_size 1024
buffer_size 4096
#format \"S32_LE\"
#periods 128
rate 44100
}

bindings {
0 0
1 1
}
}

pcm.duplex {
type asym
playback.pcm \"ossmix\"
capture.pcm \"dsnoop\"
}

pcm.!default {
type plug
slave.pcm \"duplex\"
}

pcm.dsp0 {
type plug
slave.pcm \"duplex\"
}

ctl.mixer0 {
type hw
card 0
}
[/code:1]

i always want to use device 0 (as stated in the alsa-conf), which is the snd-intel8x0 - but sometimes i have to enter \"1\" in the amarok engine settings to get sound through snd-intel8x0.. why??

also entering just \"default\" there doesn\'t always play the sound though the intel-device...

any hints? ;-)
thanks!

ah, i\'m stupid.. if you\'ve got a config like that, you hav to enter \"dmix\" in the engine settings dialog.. it\'s also mentioned on the wiki.. R E A D I N G is important ;)
