Hello,
my X server is 100% stable, no problems with OpenGL apps or any other - except AmaroK. When I have AmaroK running the X server sometimes crashes. It can be after 10 minutes or 2 hours. It doesn\'t depend on playing/not playing song or whatever. It is enough to have AmaroK started... When it crashes, creen switches to 800x600@60 and is full of colors. It is enough to do Alt+SysRq+K, login and start X again and everything is OK. There is nothing in the X server\'s log. I am using X.org 6.8.1, kernel 2.6.11.5 and KDE 3.3. Thx for any help. |

I do not believe this (or you should post the link to this100% bug free X server ). Mine crashed a day ago when I tried to stream a video by a browser plugin. But I also believe that any app could crash the X server, so maybe you can find out under which circumstances X crashes. I never had any X server crashing problems with amaroK so far. Cheers. |

Well, we can easily not believe him on his X being stable since he is posting about his X crashing.

I have the same problem, but rather than saying I\'m bug free, here\'s my info.
Distro: Arch Linux 0.7 X version: 6.8.2 Video card drivers used: nvidia binary first, then nv (generic). Same problem. KDE Version: 3.4 What happens: X completely disappears, I was running perfectly fine for 6 days, went to start up amaroK, and after about 10 seconds of loading, X disappeared, and the computer required a hard reboot. This only happens while running amaroK. Whether it crashes immediately or after 45 minutes, it crashes. amaroK probobly isnt the problem, but only amaroK triggers this, so I\'m not sure where else to begin. |

Oh, if you need more info, my phpsysinfo page can probobly be of assistance..

We need definitly more information. Can you recover any hints from your syslog or Xfree-log?
What do you mean with \"disapears\"? Maybe it\'s like a thing I have when drm is crashing and I come back to the bare console with the wrong resolution (so you cannot see all of the chars on it), but still working. Cheers. |

Can you run any other programs that use opengl?

Yeah, OpenGL is alright, no major problems with gaming or anything that requires opengl, sometimes games are a bit stubborn to start (claiming permissions on my drivers are bad), but nothing that causes crashes.
There is nothing in the logs that points to the cause. When the screen goes black, my keyboard dies (numberlock nor caps lock does anything, like making the \'numberlock\' light illuminate), and nothing works (ctrl+alt+backspace doesnt do anything). It\'s worth noting that these same problems occur when the nvidia binary driver isn\'t properly installed. When I do startx, the screen just goes black and nothing ever happens, with a dead keyboard. Usually when the nvidia driver has a problem, the xserver doesnt ever start. I\'m just using the nvidia scenario to try to explain what\'s going on, thats all. |
