Hi,
I am just wondering because it often happens that I am able to play some files perfectly if I select them from a folder, but if I try to add them to the collection, they never show up! I noticed this happens with Ogg- and Flac-Encoded files as well as MP3s with variable bitrate (sometimes). I am using Amarok 1.2, KDE 3.4 and the ARTS plugin. Interestingly these files will not play using other plugins, say Xine. How should I encode my files so Amarok will always pick them up to its collection (or am I missing something here)? Werner BTW, does someone know what the new aKode plugin is? Should it replace Arts? |

have you already tried to remove the amaroK folder and config?
otherwise an update to amaroK 1.2.2 wouldn\'t be bad aKode is part of the kmultimedia-package, it\'s a special kind of arts I think, but I don\'t know what it is exactly

Hi,
removing Amarok\'s configuration did not help. An upgrade to 1.2.2 neither. Same problem. Actually, this is something I noticed happening since I am using Amarok ever... Werner |

Hi,
I am trying to reproduce this problem in a systematic way as it has me bothering for a long time now: 1) Ripping using Konqueror\'s media: KIO slave a) MP3 --> OK using fixed and variable bitrate b) Ogg-Vorbis -> OK 2) Ripping using KAudioCreator a) Lame -> Playing is OK but no Collection, this with different settings as variable bitrate, fixed bitrate, adding tag information etc. b) Flac -> Playing is OK but no Collection c) Ogg -> Playing is OK, but no Collection So... the problem seems to be KAudioCreator. Now the interesting thing would be to find out what KAudioCreator is doing wrong so that its ripped files are not added to Amarok\'s collection? Anyone has similar experience with KAudioCreator? Hi,
I added a file extension to the ripped files (like \'.ogg\') and the files where recognized by Amarok, so I guess this is the criteria it uses to include files. Since I never use file extensions (we are using Linux, aren\'t we these files have never been added to Amarok\'s collection. So, guess I will have to rename all my music files... (sic) Werner |

When did Linux mean we don\'t use file extensions. Isn\'t that a Mac thing.

Testing? Anyway, try to remove the file extensions from some MP3 files and browse them using the file tab in Amarok, you\'ll notice they show up (While other non media files are filtered out)! Now, try to rebuild your collection and the same files will disappear from the collection browser. But, in the file browser they are still there! Ok, now adding the extensions brings the files back into the collection! So... no problem here. I simply was wondering about the origin of this behaviour, but now it seems clear. I understand that looking for file extensions is probably faster than trying to determine the file type via the "file" tool or asking KDE when browising large collections. Cheers, Werner |
