amarok hangs on NFS playback

Tue Mar 29, 2005 3:06 am
All my MP3s are mounted from an NFS share. If I start playback amarok completely freezes for about 2 seconds and then starts playing regularly. My amarok version is 1.2.2 on Gentoo Linux. It happens with all backends and XMMS doesn\'t show this behaviour playing the same files.

Maybe it could be a problem with a libmad as all my backends are using it for MP3 playback.

I was not playing from an NFS share, but from a mounted NFS partition. It is/was an external firewire/usb drive. I would get timeouts, lockups etc. After looking through the system logs I saw a couple of errors. One was it having a hard time reading compressed infor from NFS.. For that I uncompressed all of the music on that drive. The other was an linux inherint problem with firewire data transfer with external drives. I just changed the connection from firewire to USB2, and all is well now.
