amraok configure question

Sun Apr 17, 2005 7:49 am
hi! seems like no one got my error before (or I\'m just too new to linux and made a silly mistake) ...

my problem was that whenever i wanted to start streaming an ogg vorbis stream, a copy dialog popped up and saved the stream in a temp file. seams reasonable, but there has been no playback.

(I\'m using Suse 9.2 pro with kde)
now i installed gstream and some other packages that were recommended and learnt that i need to reinstall to refresh amarok. i decided to get the newest version with cvs. it worked suprisingly well (#make -f Makefile.cvs ends with
*** Finished
Don\'t forget to run ./configure
If you haven\'t done so in a while, run ./configure --help# )

now I typed:
# ./configure --enable-debug=full --prefix=`kde-config --prefix`

at first it seemed to work, until it didnt find some devel-packages. i installed X11 and a rpm for libz (but the last one had no effect) ... hence i went to YAST and randomly picked some 30 devel packages (i read that I need them in order to solve my problem)
now ./configure stopps already after the first line:

linux:/home/seb/kdeextragear-1 # ./configure --enable-debug=full --prefix=\'kde-config --prefix\'
configure: error: expected an absolute directory name for --prefix: kde-config --prefix

how should i modify my directory name? what is that --prefix anyway (i came across it quite often...)

thanks in advance

btw. I tried streaming this ogg stream already with kaffeine (which always hangs after 30s playback and vlc (doesnt hang, but no continous playback either) and i dont have any idea how to configure them... btw (2) no, it\'s not a bandwith problem... windows did it fine for months!)

Well, your going to hit yourself. The first time you used backticks (the ` character) the second time you didn\'t and used a single quotation. You need to use backticks around the kde-config command.

Hope that works out fine.

Ian

hi Ian!

thanks so far for your support! I\'m afraid i didnt quite make it to the end.

I got to configure it, but in the end it says \"Warning: The optional Gstreamer engine will not be build\" ...
that\'s what i originally wanted :-/

I\'m pasting you the complete output of configure

Good - your configure finished. Start make now
seb@linux:~/kdeextragear-1>

I guess the failure lies within these lines:

checking for gstreamer-0.8 >= 0.8.4... Package glib-2.0 was not found in the pkg-config search path.
Perhaps you should add the directory containing `glib-2.0.pc\'
to the PKG_CONFIG_PATH environment variable
Package \'glib-2.0\', required by \'GStreamer\', not found
....
... and this is also questionable...
...
checking for libvisual >= 0.2.0... Package libvisual was not found in the pkg-config search path.
Perhaps you should add the directory containing `libvisual.pc\'
to the PKG_CONFIG_PATH environment variable
No package \'libvisual\' found

I followed the instructions of the readme and did:

seb@linux:~/kdeextragear-1> export PKG_CONFIG_PATH=\"/opt/gnome/lib/pkgconfig/gstreamer-0.8.pc\"

(because I found that the gstreamer*.pc was in this directory and my prefix is something with /../kde3...)

i reconfigured, but nothing changed.... I think that the version of gstreamer is not right (0.8.4 > 0.8), but when i check
http://gstreamer.freedesktop.org/download/
there is no option to update it for SUSE.... (it says i should use the one delivered with my destribution but YOU dosent want to update it)

can you give me a hand once again, please?

Aren\'t there packages for SuSE anyways?

I use Gentoo, so not really sure what your problem is.

You need to install glib and glib2

You can get these packages using YaST. :-)
