Drag/Drop from Konqueror - no tags

Mon Apr 18, 2005 4:50 am
Hi everyone. I just installed the brand new SuSe Linux 9.3 with KDE3.4 and amarok1.2.

After running the YOU (YaST Online Update) everything works just fine except for one thing: whenenver I drag and drop music files from a konqueror window to the amarok playlist, amarok does not seem to read the ID3-Tags!
In the \"Title\" column amarok only shows the file\'s name (without the suffix). When I use the amarok internal file browser everything works just fine.

Not that I don\'t like that internal browser - but I\'d like to be able to add songs both ways...

Thanks in advance.

I am getting exactly the same problems, indeed when I create a collection, only my .ogg files are being shown, no mp3\'s whatsoever.

I\'m also running Suse 9.3, tried installing all new taglibs, lame, everything with no success.

This is happening on all versions of amarok 1.3.

When viewed in XMMS/easyTag etc. the file info shows up fine, however when trying to view the same meta info in amarok, it merley shows the track title.

Any suggestions?

suse ripped out the mp3 support. you need to get some extra packages... see wiki/faq!

I have managed to get it to play MP3\'s (sorry should have mentioned this) with all the engines, through browsing in the file list and clicking, which then adds it to the playlist, though there is still no meta information being shown. This lack of meta info is why I am guessing the tracks are not being added to the collection.

I have tried updating taglibs to Guru\'s version 1.3.1-1 with no success, any other ideas would be greatly appreciated.

I\'m on SUSE 9.3, and everything MP3-wise is fine here.

This is what I have installed, not sure where your issue is but see if you have all this:

YaST Online Update - All 4 of the Optional \"Media\" packages, which have to be hand-checked to be installed. All 4 aren\'t applicable, but no harm in installing them since they\'ll fix other progs.

Guru\'s 1.3.0beta 2 RPMs (all 5 of \'em). (Always use Guru\'s amaroK packages. SUSE\'s ones seem to lack some functionality, like the option for MySQL... I learned the hard way...)
http://linux01.gwdg.de/~pbleser/rpm-nav ... und/amarok

taglib - I\'m using the 1.3.1-5 package from SUSE\'s Supplementary KDE update with no prob.

IF USING XINE: Any Xine packages should come from Packman\'s site, not SUSE.
http://packman.links2linux.com/?action=index

IF USING GSTREAMER: Search on \"gstreamer\" in YaST\'s RPM Install window, make sure gstreamer and all gstreamer-plugin-* packages are installed (-devel not necessary, natch). These would be the default packages that come with SUSE 9.3.

Er, yeah, libvisual and libvisual-plugins installed too, though I never use visualizations.

---
Can\'t think of anything else. But that\'s my setup,

I install *all* available gstreamer, amaroK, xine, etc. RPMs, even for plugins I have a rare or no chance of using simply because I have the space to do so, and you never know if you\'ll need them in the future. (Which saves hassle down the road.) Then again, I also install everything possible to just to play with \"new toys\" when a new SUSE is released... :-P

Hmmm... Guru\'s taglib packages are only available up to SUSE 9.2. Watch the SUSE numbering on his site. ;-)

The taglib-1.3.1-4 from the SUSE 9.3 CD (or 1.3.1-5 in the Supplementary KDE update) should work fine. Which is why Guru doesn\'t have a 9.3 package.

Doubt this is the problem, since most 9.2 RPMs work fine on 9.3, but thought I\'d mention it.

Back to the original question of this thread, how do you get Amarok 1.4 to read the file paths that begin with "system:" , which happen when you add the file by either clicking and dragging a file from Konqueror onto the playlist, or by using the Amarok plugin for Konqueror to add it to the playlist?
