I have nearly the same problem, when i try to run amarok the first time, the config wizard shows up. When its finished, amarok crashes. If i try to start it again, it says something about it \"cant connect to engine\":
[code:1]tanuva@tanuva:~> amarok amaroK: [Loader] Starting amarokapp.. amaroK: [Loader] Don\'t run gdb, valgrind, etc. against this binary! Ive tried amaroK 1.3 now, too and it crashes at the same moment. (cannot connect engine::base.....)

Hey I solved the problem:
YOU installed a new kernel version, after a reboot amaroK worked (again). Maybe it had a prob with the old kernel modules. I dunno what exactly it was, but now it works |
|
aargh this prog really annoys me. now it crashes with the same problem as above.... what shall I do!?

Compile it with debug on. That error message you keep refering to actually doesn\'t mean anything.

Could/can you hear sound at all on your system? Maybe something was broken or not properly configured with your kernel sound drivers (also, oss, ... ?) Just some thoughts...
|
|
Yea sound works fine, amarok run 2 times, too, then it didnt again. Had some issues with the x-server now, too so I gonna reinstall my system. I think its easier to reinstall linux than trying to fix it.....

okay amaroK doesnt run on the fresh system with _no_ additional software. Gonna post the results of compiling/running with debug today afternoon, but one other suggestion: may it be the prob that amarok tries to read my complete library from a ntfs formatted partition? -> does amarok try to write something in the library folder?
