"Cannot connect Engine

Sun Apr 24, 2005 3:52 am
What does this mean?r

oot@localhost amarok-1.2.3]# amarok
amaroK: [Loader] Starting amarokapp..
amaroK: [Loader] Don\'t run gdb, valgrind, etc. against this binary! Use amarokapp.
QObject::connect: Cannot connect Engine::Base::statusText( const QString& ) to (null)::shortMessage( const QString& )
QObject::connect: Cannot connect Engine::Base::infoMessage( const QString& ) to (null)::longMessage( const QString& )
QLayout: Adding KToolBar/mainToolBar (child of QVBox/unnamed) to layout for PlaylistWindow/PlaylistWindow
[root@localhost amarok-1.2.3]#

I am just setting up ... tried and got error messages about need to install taglib. Taglib installed OK no errors.

Thanks in advance for the help,

Cheers,

Dave

I have nearly the same problem, when i try to run amarok the first time, the config wizard shows up. When its finished, amarok crashes. If i try to start it again, it says something about it \"cant connect to engine\":

[code:1]tanuva@tanuva:~> amarok
amaroK: [Loader] Starting amarokapp..
amaroK: [Loader] Don\'t run gdb, valgrind, etc. against this binary! Use amarokapp.
QObject::connect: Cannot connect Engine::Base::«»statusText( const QString& ) to (null)::«»shortMessage( const QString& )
QObject::connect: Cannot connect Engine::Base::infoMessage( const QString& ) to (null)::longMessage( const QString& )
QLayout: Adding KToolBar/mainToolBar (child of QVBox/unnamed) to layout for PlaylistWindow/PlaylistWindow
KCrash: Application \'amarokapp\' crashing...[/code:1]

Im running SuSE Linux 9.3 with KDE 3.4 and amaroK 1.2 (the version from the system dvd)

Hey I solved the problem:
YOU installed a new kernel version, after a reboot amaroK worked (again). Maybe it had a prob with the old kernel modules. I dunno what exactly it was, but now it works :)

Compile it with debug on. That error message you keep refering to actually doesn\'t mean anything.

Could/can you hear sound at all on your system? Maybe something was broken or not properly configured with your kernel sound drivers (also, oss, ... ?) Just some thoughts...

Yea sound works fine, amarok run 2 times, too, then it didnt again. Had some issues with the x-server now, too so I gonna reinstall my system. I think its easier to reinstall linux than trying to fix it.....

okay amaroK doesnt run on the fresh system with _no_ additional software. Gonna post the results of compiling/running with debug today afternoon, but one other suggestion: may it be the prob that amarok tries to read my complete library from a ntfs formatted partition? -> does amarok try to write something in the library folder?
