Ok, I\'m having the same problem as him, using gentoo, gstreamer and amarok v1.2.3, this also happens using xine, so I take it it\'s not gstreamer (because sometimes amarok is not playing anything an it still crashes), I can paste the backtrace here... but its a lot... but anyway I will... this is the backtrace I get:

I had the same problem.. crashing into a song sometimes. I noticed that it does not crash on Ogg files tho, so i traced the problem down to the gst-plugins.
Seems Amarok does not like the gst-ffmpeg plugin to play MP3\'s, crashes at random times. To fix it just install libmad and libid3tag and recompile gst-plugins with mad support.. works fine now. Hope this helps |

I\'m having a similar problem but wasn\'t using gstreamer, I wasn\'t using an engine, I just turned on the xine engine to fix another problem, what\'s this about a gentoo stereotype? I take offense to that. as far as I can tell all my aggressive use flags have never broken a build. but I don\'t even know what that funwhatever it was is. unfortunately I have no backtrace right now. I\'ll see to it later. no time now.

Aggressive USE flags are fine (mine is very long), aggressive CFLAGS in /etc/make.conf are silly and damaging. Especially because packages that actually benefit from aggressive CFLAGS add them (for instance xine-lib).
And yes, it is the sterotype of Gentoo, whether we like it or not. :silly:

I\'m running version 1.2.3, Gentoo Distro (love-sources Kernel), KDE 3.4 libs, engine not important it happens on aRts, gstreamer, xine. may not be same error but it still crashes. I\'m going to leave it and the terminal open, in case someone can tell me what to get for further info. |

Um, did you try typing \'bt\'? Just because its outputted over the prompt doesn\'t mean you can\'t type.

That line is just the \'start the GUI loop\' line, so pretty much everything in amaroK starts there. In other words, the backtrace isn\'t that useful.
