I\'m using 1.3-cvs with arts.
Launching amarok sometimes causes X crash returning to the login screen.
Is there a way to solve this issue?

There was a bug in foxytunes (a firefox extension) that casued amarok to crash X. There is a threat about this same issue here somewhere.

I had something similar.
It was connected with OSD - w/o it all was fine.
The X restart was triggered by the end of the playlist -> OSD should announce this and show some amaroks icon -> I ended up with login screen, and eventually - I could loose unsaved work
Some time/versions of amarok later this {end of playlist} + OSD mechanism made QImage flood messages in stdout and effectively hang amarok.
Supposedly - in those X crashing cases amarok made something really ugly to Qt libs, which, simultanously beeing mmaped by X, did something so bad, that kernel instantly shut down both of them without any notice in dmesg, Xorg.log, syslog - nothing.
