collection scanning not scanning?!

Thu May 05, 2005 1:00 pm
Hi,

Running 1.2.3 under KDE 3.4 on Ubuntu \'Hoary\'

Although the \'Watch folders for changes\' is ticked, I have to manually re-scan the collection if I add/remove tracks. Also, the update button doesn\'t work (as in it doesn\'t \'click\')

These are fine on my other box running Gentoo.

Anyone else come across this?

Thanks
Daren

well, they prolem sounds familiar, AFAIK we havn\'t a solution.

I think it\'s a missing dependence, or a b0rked build

Darn!

I was just starting to like this distro! Guess I could try a manual build, or install all of kde to see if it starts working....

Nah, there are some bugs related to this.

Ok, guess I\'ll wait for an update to see if it gets sorted out.

On what filesystem is your music data? Automatic update won\'t work e.g. with FAT32 or NFS.

Well, it works for me here with both fat32 and nfs, so I am not sure that is the problem, unless that was fixed post 1.2.3.

A cause for this, I have found is this bug.

http://bugs.kde.org/show_bug.cgi?id=105127

If you use sqlite and have cleared your watched directories, this may be the cause of your problem.

The filesystem is ext3 (same as the Gentoo box which works ok)

Just checked the bug out, opened the sqlite db, and lo and behold, no directories table. After manually creating it and re-scanning the collection from the menu, a test of moving an mp3 into the directory (eventually) triggered the updating message in the status bar.

The \'update\' icon still doesn\'t work though!!

Thanks for the help

lol. Enabling automatic scanning disables the update icon, as it\'s not needed.

(Although it \'looks\' enabled!)
