I want to use amaroK, but I\'m not getting any playback when I try and ply a file. It just flashes up the track details for a second and then stops. Playback fails to work in XMMS as well, although it works fine in Real Player 10 (I really don\'t want to use Real Player).
The music is stored on a windows FAT32 partition, I\'m not sure if that would make a difference. Any help would be appreciated. Cheers, Ben |

What kind of file are you trying to play? mp3, aac, ogg, etc.

The are mostly mp3, there\'s some aac in there. I was trying to play mp3\'s though, haven\'t tried any aac\'s yet.

@oggb4mp3: it\'s 9.3! and the problem with 9.3 is...? right, the deal with real networks.
so what we do? we ask the suse 9.3 guy @randomtimes: http://amarok.kde.org/wiki/index.php/FAQ#amaroK_won.27t_play_MP3.27s_under_SUSE_Linux_9.3.2C_what_could_I_do.3F if it doesn\'t work, I propose to visit the irc channel Post edited by: Apachelogger, at: 2005/05/08 15:10

Thanks apachelogger, I wasn\'t aware of that faq, but the solution in both cases was to install some more packages to correct the broken mp3 support.

Got SuSE 9.3 here, and it\'s working with no problems on any engine.
1. There\'s some updates in SuSE Online Update that are \"Optional\" called \"Multimedia Option Pack\" 1-4. Install all 4 of these. I\'m pretty sure #2 is the one needed for MP3 issues, but installing all 4 will help with other multimedia issues as well. 2. Use Guru\'s amaroK RPMs if you\'re not already: http://linux01.gwdg.de/~pbleser/rpm-nav ... nd/amarok/ |
