mp4/m4a

Mon May 16, 2005 6:52 am
I just upgraded my SuSE 9.2 Pro to KDE 3.4 and Amarok 1.2.3. The player is working fine for MP3 files but M4A files won\'t play. I\'m not talking about the taglib problem of not being able to pull them into a playlist; I can\'t even get them to play by using the file finder. I saw on a previous thread that gstreamer-faad and gstreamer-quicktime are need for M4A but I can\'t find versions of these files anywhere for SuSE 9.2. Any ideas?
Thanks,
Mike

Sorry, I have no idea where SuSE hides these plugins. Maybe you have to find new gstreamer packages from elsewhere.
Otherwise give the xine engine a try!

I wouldn\'t use the gstreamer rpms from SuSE anymore, because they are quite outdated (recent gst ver: 8.10, suse rpm: 0.8.1) ... - perhaps there was no m4a support in this old ver?

Instead, compile them yourself, you can get fresh sources from http://gstreamer.freedesktop.org/modules/

Thanks. I\'ll give the recompile a try. You\'re right about the old SuSE modules.
