hello friends;
finally i gave up searching topics describing similar problems because nothing lead me to the finish line. here\'s my problem i\'m fighting with: i am running amarok 1.3-beta1 on my suse9.3 (kde 3.4) with arts as sound output. i can manage media but am not able to play any of the sound files. amarok gives no error information or something, neither in a gui window, nor in the command line. i\'m a little confused, because, i.e. kaffeine plays sound very well. so which one of my settings can be wrong?? greets danube |

If kaffeine works, try the xine engine.

thanks for replying...!
sorry, but xine doesn\'t appear in the audio engines. i\'m able to select \'aRts\', \'GStreamer\' and \'aKode\'. nothing of them works... :huh: Post edited by: danube, at: 2005/06/29 22:55 |

it\'s prolly mp3\'s only, which it won\'t play. suse removed the mp3 support recently. see our wiki / faq, you need to get a certain suse package!

works. great! thank you for this hint!
muesli, may you write a hint in the faq to restart the computer after installing the patch so that changes take effect and amarok will work correctly again? but... why did they stop mp3 support? i thought mp3 is a free2have codec?? thanks, danube |

No, mp3 isn\'t free.
Erm, restarting shouldn\'t be necesary. Restarting X at the very most.

amarok didn\'t run before performing a reboot. don\'t know if it\'s enough to restart x, but it seems that you have to restart something. don\'t doing that causes amarok not to run!
