First sorry for my english.
Open amaroK, put some songs to play and minimize it... After some time, when amarok starts to rescan the collection it freezes, a lot of times... If there is a music playing it continues to play... This problem happens a lot, most of time when amaroK is minimized, rescaning the collection and I restore it, but also (but with less frequency) with amaroK window maximized This erratic behaviour happens since version 1.2.3 and the only way to stops it is turn off the collection rescan. So I think this i likely a SQLite bug, right? Thanks, doutor.zero |

i had that problem for quite a while when using beta 1
it has since gone on my system with beta 2 however since your remains try updating all dependencies of amarok 1.3 install/upgrade the latest arts , xine engine , gstreamer engine, and make sure all What i did different when upgrading (may solve you problem) removed all traces of amarok in rpm-remove and sql-lite. and install amarok beta 2 once again from urpmi/rpmdrake i used mandrake cooker for amarok (recommend not use cooker for anything core KDE rpm etc) http://easyurpmi.zarb.org/index.php?lan ... 586#second 2nd possible reason permission error on either A single file in you music folders that have root permissions. i once had this also your /home/user/.kde and /home/user/tmp have write permissions for you |

Thanks for your reply.
After more testing I realize that this problem happens most in paths in accents. For example: Björk. In paths without accents amaroK crashes but a lot less... Maybe this is a enconding problem? I don\'t know. But I think that SQLite is the responsible... Searching in the Net I found some people saying that switching to MySQL solves the problem (besides turning off re-scan). In my case I can\'t use MySQL because I have a low memory system... Now I\'m will remove amaroK and try to see what happens next, but I will stay with the deafult engines because the last time I tried to update them I had problems (Xine and Gstreamer don\'t work very well). Well, using mysql does lower the memory consumption of amaroK I believe (while adding the memory used by mysql of course). Its probably a net-gain in memory use, but it might not be too bad.

Really? The first and only time I tried MySQL it appears to use a lot of memory, but anyway I will follow your suggestion and try it again. Thanks for the reply, doutor.zero |

Tried MySQL and the problem still there
So its not a SQLite or MySQL problem, so again i\'m thinking in a enconding problem... For some reason rescaning folders with accents makes amaroK crash (and maybe it\'s crash a lot because all my music is inside a folder with accents). What I\'m going to try now is use older versions (tried 1.3b1 2 b2, 1.2.4 and 1.2.3) because I can\'t simple remove the accents of hundreds of songs. Now i\'m using 1.2.1, let\'s see whats happens... After testing all versions of amaroK since 1.2.1 now I can reproduce this freeze all the times I want (with any sound engine or with SQLite/MySQL)...
The freeze happens with all tested versions, since 1.2.1 to 1.3 beta 2 and is easy to reproduce: open amaroK and put some musics in the playlist (don\'t matter if they are with accents or not), minimize amaroK and do some modification to the collection folder (put new stuff or remove something) to trigger a rescan, wait some time until amaroK starts the rescan and maximize the amaroK window while the rescan is happening. The freeze don\'t occurs if there is no music in the playlist, if you wait for the end of the rescan or if you restore the window from the tray. Thanks, doutor.zero |
