amaroK seems to hang quickly

Sun Jul 17, 2005 4:22 am
Hi,
I\'m a new user to amaroK. I used to use XMMS, but I\'ve just finished a Gentoo installation and decided to go with amaroK this time.
I must say I really like the player.
I still have a problem though, I\'ve got it to hang several times now while using it for a couple of minutes. It seems that switching engines makes a lot of difference in this. It was set to the xine engine by default, but when trying to play Radioseven from Shoutcast for example, it would always hang with that engine. The aRts engine seemed to be a little more stable, but it still hangs sometimes when trying to open a stream. The aKode engine immediatly hung amaroK when I tried to use it.
Does anyone recognise these problems?
Here is some more information about my system:
Gentoo Linux 2005.0 (with GCC 3.4 & NPTL)
AMD Athlon 700MHz
256MB RAM
Voodoo Banshee
Creative Soundblaster AWE 64.
Thanks in advance,
Z

I\'ve now also got the GStreamer engine.
With this engine I\'ve also got the problem that amaroK sometimes seems to hang. Also the crossfading that the aRts engine had doesn\'t seem to be working with GStreamer, while it does seem to have settings for it.

Are there some optimizations that are known to cause problems? Is there anything more that I could do to help solve the problem. provide logs/debug information somehow?quickly

On IRC, the problem with the Xine-engine turned out to be a problem with xine-lib.
I\'ve also sent an e-mail to amarok-devel about the overall hanging issues.
