I just built and installed 1.3b3 because I read that xine crossfading was back... However, every time I enable crossfading with xine-engine using any output plugin (even autodetect), it will play the first song fine, but when trying to switch to the next song, it says \"xine was unable to initialize any audio-drivers.\" Anyone else receiving this message?

Interesting, I was getting the same message when I first built 1.3b3. Xine was actually totally dead - if I tried to select the engine in Amaraok it would give me that error and then if I tried to play anything in Xine standalone it would just crash on me. Unfortunately, I don\'t know if this had anything to do with installing this Amarok build, because I installed several things today.
Anyway, what I wound up doing is removing all my xine packages (I\'m using Mandrake RPMs) and reinstalling them. It works perfectly now, including crossfading. In fact, I\'m using Xine in Amarok as I type this! ![]() |

Use dmix, use a decent sound card or turn off crossfading. Xine crossfading relies on the sound card or sound driver to do sound mixing.
We should probably figure out how to detect this problem and turn off crossfading automatically.

Also, you may simply upgrade to the latest ALSA (1.0.9). It does dmix mixing automatically.

songplay, on amarok 1.3 final, freezes with crossfade enabled using the xine engine (xine-lib-1.0.1 alsa-1.0.9). pressing the stop button causes the gui to freeze too and i have to kill amarokapp.
indeed, if i run 2 xine processes simultaneously with 2 distinct songs, i can hear both outputs without problems, so i think the problem isn\'t caused by alsa or xine-lib... please tell me if that\'s a known bug, else i\'ll rebuild amarok with debug support and file a bug report with backtraces. thank you! |

I had a bit odder situation with crossfading (using 1.3 official, Xine).
With crossfading on, the fade outs and ins would work fine. But every once in a while it would \"skip\" a song by fading into it, then immediately fade back out and go to the next track. Without crossfading, the songs played fine so it\'s not the files. (I\'ve turned it off, and don\'t care about it really, just adding 2 cents to this dollar since it\'s not a repeat experience of the above users.) |

xine cross-fading generally works fine for me (on both 1.3 final and svn), but I do occasionally experience the same problem as HairMetalAddict. It\'s weird.. I can go back to the track, though, and it plays fine. I haven\'t seen it repeated on any particular tracks, so it seems random, but then again I have a big collection.
