Can't Get Amarok to Play Sound

Mon Aug 08, 2005 9:03 pm
Can\'t get amarok to play sound. Have installed it in SuSE 9.2. Thought maybe ArTs didn\'t work as the engine so have tried Zine. No luck. Sound works fine in other Zine applications. Please Please Please help! Thank you ahead of time.

What is Zine?
Which version do you use? Did you compile it by yourself or do you use a binary package?

Xine is a sound engine like gstreamer, and artsd. It comes packaged in SuSE 9.2. It has an output plugin amarok-xine for amarok. version 1.0.2 Kaffeine is an example of another xine based player. In the section where you configure amarok, it has a choice for picking xine. I read somewhere in forums that one reason why amarok might not play is because the engine wasn\'t working properly. so I changed the engine to xine. Didn\'t help. Amarok comes up and acts like it is playing, it just won\'t put out any sound. Hope somebody out there can help. I work for a radio station and we are getting ready to stream using shoutcast and need amarok to make it all happen. Thanks.

We\'re still wondering what Zine is. ;) Also, what version of amaroK.

I assume sound works otherwise on your system?

Thanks for the help. Was getting totally bumfrustrated. Sound works in everything except Amarok. Ive had kaffeine and kscd running. Amarok looks like its cooking great, but no steam in the pot, no sound at all. Have had it reading a station that was streaming. It comes up and acts just like its playing. The version I had tried was 1.0.2 that comes packaged in SUse 9.2. Here is a thing that might help explain Xine http://xinehq.de. Arts Engine wouldn\'t work either. Other possibilities were helix engine, gstreamer engine or xine engine. Arts comes in KDE, but it wouldn\'t work. It comes up as the default for the engine choice. I tried that first and got no sound. Somebody in some forum I searched said try xine if one of the others didn\'t work. Did and it didn\'t. Help oh please help. Am desperately needing to get this thing going. :S

Sorry about the spelling. Is there a way to install plugins into amaroK? Hope so. It is a great player. Have had it running for a whole day and night playing a streaming radio station, and no problems. One of the best sounding players I\'ve tried, and I\'ve tried lots. I want to try to use it to stream with shoutcast streamer and it uses the DSP plugin that has to install in the player. shoutcast is supposed to work with xmms but I had major problems with that player. Thanks.
