How to install amarok, finally

Sh....t amaroK, it is so sexy, and like a women (sometimes)not easy to understand.

After many days trying to compile and install the 1.3 version correctly, I’ve got a magazine (cheaper than 6 Euro) with a complete SuSE9.3 …….. mmmm ;-) I took the risk so, out with my old 9.1 and the hard compilation tasks, really a suffered and a painful job if you don’t understand all the warning messages during the process. I hate it.

FYI: I was able to compile amarok 1.2.3 and 1.2.4 under suse9.1, even the Version 1.3 but all the issues related with installation of new Version over old not uninstall ones, as like as the compiled an installed 1.3 version could not play xine, even though the ./configure and make didn\'t claim anything kicked me losing to find it funny.

A half day, installing SuSE 9.3 and updates were gone, till SuSE 9.3 run in my PC with updated KDE 3.4.2 and xine 1.1 from Packman, and, and , and ready for the amarok’s rpms files from Guru.

IT WORKS ! with xine – engine, GREAT XINE seems to accept crossfade too.

Only one thing: aRts refused to start, (curiously it works now after restart the KDE, great ! )but who cares. I will test also gstreamer today.

Crazy, only for this application all the above OS update issue, but…..to have fun (with amaroK) why not?

By the way: I was rejected to install SuSE9.3. But considering the solutions to problems like the unplayable mp3 or the modification of the KDM Login issues, and considering an update to KDE3.4.2, I must say WOW amazing piece of system and applications really a good job for funny users like me. Also to SuSE\'s team a plus point.

I am really very happy with SuSE9.3 and amarok :)

well, that\'s the problem if you\'ve an outdated linux ;) ... something won\'t work ... I\'m using suse since 9.0 and since 9.1 I\'m compiling amaroK from source (just for check it out, not for using, in this case I trusted suse\'s rpms untill last november) ... and since that time I\'ve compiled amaroK mostly without problems ... the only thing you should have is an up-to-date distro and about the haf of it\'s package installed (which should include the -devel or -dev), then you\'ll never have problems with compiling amaroK or any other kde application

but, well, congrats to your brand-new amaroK B)
