xine claims to be busy

Wed Aug 24, 2005 5:17 pm
Hi,

I am using amarok 1.3 with xine engine (alsa output).
Since 1.3beta sometimes one of these yellow windows pop up in amaroK telling me that xine is busy. Mainly happens when the playlist is at the end, but I have problems reproducing it. Maybe there are side-effects with other programs using oss output (like the flash player in my browser) instead of native alsa.
However, amaroK still plays music without any problems.

Before reporting a bug I would be interested if anyone else observes this behavior.

Cheers,
Marcel

You will have to disable the Crossfading. It requires proper hardware mixing or a good alsa dmix setup.

Of course, crossfading would lock the sound device.
But it is off, gap is set to zero.
At least it seems to be a problem at my side. Maybe I can find out when it happens to provide further information.

The crossfade gap for xine does not do anything.

What? There is no gap for crossfading but a crossfade period.
Anyhow, I said I use no crossfading without a gap.

The crossfade gap option does not do anything for xine, since I apparently wasn\'t clear. :P

I get this message quite often as well, though I don\'t notice it normally since roK is normally hidden away in the taskbar.

However, I have learned that it occurs when I run several heavy apps at once are hogging the CPU.(Gimp with a large .xcf file, OOCalc, 2-3 other progs for web design and coding...) I\'m on a measly 800Mhz CPU here.

I can pop open amaroK to find 3-4 of these messages that have to be individually closed. Happens when I hear the music stop for a second due to opening OOCalc or something heavy.

No crossfading here.

Hmm, this sounds similar to my configuration (1GHz CPU which lacks RAM and sometimes to many apps running simultaniously) and seems to be the very same problem.

But I cannot remember those messages in pre1.3 versions...

I too see this sometimes and I do not have crossfading turned on.

I wonder could it be related to the Xine bug which prevents watching movies with 5.1 sound when the menus are stereo, in that the sound device is closed (by the application) and the new device is opened before the library has completely tidied the old sound connection.

This happened to me just a minute ago: Song switch (in this case from a mp3 to a ogg file), windows pops up \"device busy\", amaroK switches to the next track in the playlist.

I heard just a millisecond of the song, score of the \"skipped\" song was decreased of course.

odd.
