After upgrading from Amarok 1.2 > 1.3, I can\'t play CDs any more.... The play CD option in the actions menu is greyed out and I can\'t seem to force the program to recogise the cd through the file browser..
I\'m using Mandriva 10.2 (2005 LE), CDs were working OK before the upgrade. I\'ve tried editing the $HOME/.kde/apps/amarok/xine-config file to have different variations of the CD drive path, but that makes no difference. Xine, Kaffeine and KDE CD player all play CDs fine, so I\'m guessing there\'s a config issue somewhere here I\'m missing? While I\'m posting, I\'ve also got 2 other issues that have been buggng me all along with Amarok - any ideas here would be useful too.. 1) I can\'t get Amarok to act as the default CD player. Every time I insert an audio CD, the default KDE cd player comes up. I\'ve altered the KDE setup so that Amarok is the default program for audio CD types, but that makes no difference. 2) Some tracks appear in the collection 2 or 3 times. I\'ve tried deleting collection.db and rescanning, but some things just keep appearing over and over Thank |

xine doesn\'t support kio slaves, and as amaroK uses audiocd:// for cd playback amaroK can\'t play cds with xine, and that\'s why we greyed it out
Annoyed with bbcode since 1999.

Gstreamer can play CDs. Use it (note that xine is the default in 1.3)

About your problem 2)
Are you sure the songs are not twice in your collection (probably with different paths or file names)? You can easily check this by right clicking the song in the collection -> Edit track information and comparing the paths. |

Just use kscd to play CDs.

I\'m having the same problem as the person above except that I really really like Amarok, and don\'t want to switch. I did check and I am not running the xine engine. How do I get that to work?
I am using fedoraCore 4, have used packages for everything. Xine is installed. Thanks in advanced. Glenn |

kscd is just for playing CDs, you don\'t have to switch to use it. It does its one job better then amaroK does.
That said, use the gstreamer engine.
