Amarok OSD not on top using Openbox

Tue Aug 30, 2005 9:50 am
I am using Amarok 1.3 with the Xine engine in Gnome that uses Openbox3.2 as the window manager. When ever the OSD shows up, if there is a window there, it is shown below that window so most of the OSD is unreadable most of the time. None of the windows have the always on top flag so that\'s not the problem. Also, I tried using the always on top flag on the main amarok playlist, but that didn\'t affect the OSD.

Unfortunately we don\'t know a fix for that. It appears to be a bug in the Fluxbox/Openbox code. You could try to contact the Openbox developers, perhaps they know what\'s going on.

Seems not so uncommon - I just found this because I see the same with fvwm2 (2.3)
Funny thing, the "OSD Preview" really is on top, just the real thing hides... even behind the amarok playlist.. there also seems to be no way to put the windows behind it... it seems to be "permanently in the background" - even wmctrl -a -i 0x82004d9 (0x82004d9 is its window id right now) doesn't raise it.
Hm, but restarting Amarok cured it this time... very strange... lets keep an eye on it ...

Edit: The OSD is on top for a while after restart, but never stays there very long - my impression is that it might be linked to opening the amarok playlist or something similar ... but I wasn't able to reproduce it more clearly than saying "it goes to the background after some time"...
It is similar to this: http://www.haskell.org/pipermail/xmonad ... 02675.html - but my case is not linked to opening a new window...
