The previous release of amarok crashed all the time on my onld FC3 system. I had high hopes for this new version 1.3. But I am still having problems.
I run Fedora Core 4 on a PIII Compaq 1000Mhz machine with 384mb ram. I am using the KDE desktop. I have downloaded the most up-to-date gstreamer plugins to play mp3s. When I load a playlist, it plays the first song fine. But then it goes all wrong. It just outputs high-pitched gibber, which sounds like fast-forwarding through an old tape. Does anyone have any idea what is going on here. Has this problem cropped up before? |

I have a similar problem with the xine engine on some tracks. before the track gets played it has a nasty second or so of high-pitched screeching gibberish. for me gstreamer seemed to fix the problem.
but you\'re already using it.. hmm.. my only guess is that its reading some tags badly in the file.. but i cant pinpoint it |

If this helps, here is the history from the terminal window in which I started Amarok:

I\'m having the same problem, First song will play fine and then all others are stuttering and sped up. I know this is just a problem with amarok because Rythmbox works fine for me, problem is I don\'t want to use Rythmbox I want to use amarok inch:
Also I thought the problem could be that I\'m actually running 1.3 on FC4 not 1.3.1, I downloaded the source of amarok and install manually instead of through yum (because yum will only install the 1.3) and the configure check says:
how can I not have X! I\'m running KDE fine. Thanks for any and all help, hope I\'ve shed some light onto this. |

Are the X devel packages installed? Also chek the permissions on the directories where X is installed (usualy /usr/X11R6) |

Ah the X development pack, i don\'t think it is I\'ll try that.

wierd.... when I run amarok in GNOME and not KDE, I have no problems...
So obviously this is a problem with KDE... |
|
Nvm, it still does it in GNOME, just not as frequently.

zmeyski,
The X-devel packages are installed. The usr permissions on the directories in X11R6 is 755 for each of them. 755 for X11R6 itself as well. |

Hyh??? I thought Namisar had Problems compiling amaroK |

I did... and I still do... lol
What EXACTLY should I install... I\'m a little nooby. x devel packages, I search thorugh yum and get a ton of results. |

Not using fedora here so i can\'t tell you the names of the packages you need. But in most cases if you have a package xorg-6.8.2.rpm (it\'s just an example) there will be a corresponding xorg-devel-6.8.2.rpm package and that\'s the package you need to successfuly compile amaroK (or any other program that depends on X actually). Check which xorg packages you have installed and then install their corresponding -delev packages (if any).
You will need also devel packages for gstreamer or/and xine or/and arts (depends what output system you want to use) kdelbs, taglib and some optional ones That\'s it Sorry for the bad english, not a native speaker |

zmeYski,
I am the one who actually created this thread. Although I am more than happy for namisar to piggy-bag on it, as we seem to have the same problem. I have got heaps of packages called xorg installed:
Is there anything which is not there that I do need? |
|
Yeah right whittler
you are fine i think no additional devel packages are needed except if you are trying to build amaroK from source. I don\'t have a clue why isn\'t the playback working  Try with another engine - xine or even arts good luck |
