amaroK crashes on Ipod file transfe

Thu Sep 15, 2005 6:05 pm
amaroK crashes when I try to transfer files to my 4th gen colour iPod - it mounts and \'connects\' okay and tries to transfer the contents across but when the display gets to 100% amaroK crashes. the files do not appear in the iPod database.

does anyone elses do this?

The same happens with my iPod shuffle.

The last output on the command line is:

amarok: [MediaBrowser] Transfering: file.mp3
amarok: [MediaBrowser] Syncing IPod!
amarok: IPod::ensureConsistency()
amarok: IPod::replayLog()

This happens with the latest SVN build (September 19).

same happens here:
when the transfer is at 100% it freezes for a bit and then crashes ALL THE TIME. i think the crash happens when it updates or syncs the \"db\".
The same thing happens if i remove any mp3 from the ipod.
the ipod is the color one with the picture display (30Gig).
pls respond if there is a fix.
thanks

Please, when reporting crashes include your amaroK version.

Same here. Ipod mini, 4GB. Removing of adding files crashes amarok hard. Version is 1.3.1 on Ubuntu Breezy (fully updated). Funny thing is that before the crash, I get an error dialog \"Can not start kmail\" ...

A bug\'s been filed here https://bugs.kde.org/show_bug.cgi?id=113377. It\'s been incorrectly closed, hopefully the powers that be will reopen it soon.

if its still not working, heres something you could try. bear in mind this is a) experimental b) not supported, exactly

we just got a very nice patch from a mr. Martin Aumueller adding support for libgpod instead of the KIO ipodslave. libgpod is actually maintained, and it works better for me than the KIO slave.

you\'ll need:

libgpod cvs
amarok svn
patch: http://pwsp.net/~lfranchi/libgpod-corrected.diff

apply patch from multimedia/amarok directory, patch -p0 < patch

don\'t come crying though if it does weird stuff, just an idea.

OS
403.

And actually assuming you do get the patch and apply it, we would like to hear your experience.

does this mean that I need the (more or less) complete KDE development kit installed? If so, I will probably wait for a ubuntu 1.3.3 binary to be released since I dont feel competent enough to build complex packages like amarok myself. Sorry that I am not able to help test the patch!

I forgot to say this

I really want to thank the amarok developers for a truly great piece of software. I have used many other players on many platforms, but amarok if probably the most useful and impressive piece of code that I have seen in this genre, iTunes included.
