i can verify that the hanging also occurs with MySQL as a database backend.

If Amarok and its threads are forced onto one CPU virtual, partial, or what have you then it can co-exist with HT otherwise enabled.
I use the following to invoke Amarok on a machine running an HT kernel: taskset 01 /usr/lib/amarok/amarokapp \"taskset\" is being used in this case to set the processor affinity of amarokapp and any child threads to CPU 0. That cuts the crashing way way down. I\'ve gone three days with only one crash on two different HT enabled machines. Amarok also pretty much runs stable as well starts stable when invoked in this way. The taskset trick also fixed a freeze with the shuttling backward in the Rezound sound editor. On Debian derivatives taskset is supplied by the schedutils package. The basic package may well be called that on other flavors. |
