Hi,
I just started using AmaroK and I really enjoy it, the best player by FAR! Anyway, I encountered a small problem: for some of my mp3s there are inconsistencies in track lengths... the right length shows up in the column \'Length\' but when I play them Amarok seems to think the track lasts 28min instead of 8... which means that even if I play the track in it\'s entirety the score gets reduced. Besides that I havenn\'t noticed any problems. I\'m using AmaroK 1.3.1 through the Xine engine by the way. |

I experienced the same problem with some of my MP3s, mainly the ones with VBR.

I notice this too, but for me it\'s only VBR tracks I encode via KDEs drag-and-drop encoding. While that isn\'t an amaroK flaw, if anyone knows how to resolve the encoding issue, I\'d appreciate it.

indeed after investigation, it\'s only happening on VBR tracks, no matter what program I use to encode them.

It\'s the combination of \"Xine engine\" with VBR mp3\'s which causes this problem. If you search the forum for \"xine length\", you will find other reports of this. I\'m not sure, but I suppose since oggs are VBR too, they will suffer from this problem as well.
This is especially a problem when you use audioscrobbler (last.fm) for submitting tracks. It only transmits the information half-way the song, so in cases where the wrong track length exceeds twice (or more) the real length, the information won\'t be sent. Since I also use more and more VBR, my work-around is to use the gstreamer plugin, which detects the length correctly. Although I prefer the Xine engine, it works well for now... EDIT: btw, I\'m using Amarok 1.3.5 Post edited by: frido, at: 2005/10/31 18:29 |

I am really sure that this is a different thing (IMO most of oggs are VBR and I had never problems with them), you cannot compare mp3s and oggs. Marcel |

The problem is when you have mp3 files without a XING-header. The XING-header contains the length of the track. All modern encoders should write it.
There exists a tool for fixing the mp3s by adding the header, but I forgot the name. Perhaps you can find it on google.
