Amarok hanging post launch

Fri Sep 30, 2005 7:45 am
i\'m running amarok-1.3.2-mysql.102mdk.1gm.

Initially after launch, the splash screen appears, the main amarok window is drawn, and the status in the bottom left says \"Updating collection\" (or somethign very similar to this)

Then the amarok application seems to hang. The window is not redrawn if i change focus to another application and back to amarok.
i\'ve left it for many hours, even left is running all weekend to see if it came back to life, but amarok seems to have stalled.

So, i\'ve tried killing amarok, and i then i end up with a processs, called \"amarok [defunct]\" which wil not die even with kill -9.

i\'ve tried rebooting, but amarok behaves the same after reboot..

my music collection is on a samba share. I can see there\'s no harddrive activity, and no network activity that looks like amaork reading the samaba share and re-indexing.

I did suspect maybe amarok was waiting forever for a response from the samba share filesystem or encountering a damaged file somewhere, and so i\'ve been running \"madman\", which is another music library application (but inferior in functionality to amarok). Madman is able to sucessful index my music collection on the samba share.

Can anyone recommend some steps to find out what is trapping amarok into hanging?

Have you had amarok working reliably in the past?
You could try deleting or backing up your ~/.kde/share/apps/amarok directory and starting with no existing db.
