:( hi there
i heard about amaroK and looks like it\'s great.. i found a precompiled package for my Slackware (amaroK 1.3.1) but I want the latest  I compiled it and was using Xine.. but the sound slutters a lot.. if I run any program the sound slutters.. so I was thinking about using GSTreamer but everytime I try to compile amaroK it says that GSTreamer is not installed... ok.. then I downloaded GSTreamer and gst-plugin 0.8.11 GSTreamer is installed OK, but amaroK can\'t find it.. I can\'t compile gst-plugin, it can\'t fine gstreamer either.. here is the message from gst-plugin: [code:1] checking for gstreamer-0.8 >= 0.8.9.1... Package gstreamer-0.8 was not found in the pkg-config search path. Perhaps you should add the directory containing `gstreamer-0.8.pc\' to the PKG_CONFIG_PATH environment variable No package \'gstreamer-0.8\' found configure: error: no GStreamer found [/code:1] and here is the message from amaroK [code:1] checking for gstreamer-0.8 >= 0.8.6... Package gstreamer-0.8 was not found in the pkg-config search path. Perhaps you should add the directory containing `gstreamer-0.8.pc\' to the PKG_CONFIG_PATH environment variable No package \'gstreamer-0.8\' found checking for gstreamer-plugins-0.8 >= 0.8.6... Package gstreamer-plugins-0.8 was not found in the pkg-config search path. Perhaps you should add the directory containing `gstreamer-plugins-0.8.pc\' to the PKG_CONFIG_PATH environment variable No package \'gstreamer-plugins-0.8\' found [/code:1] i\'m using this command to configure amarok: ./configure --enable-mysql --without-arts don\'t know what should I do.. can anyone help!??! thanks a lot |

gstreamer in my experience stutters more then xine, but I guess YMMV.
You installed using slackware packages?

I had the same problem with Slack 10.2, heres how I sorted it:
Firstly install gstreamer 8.x (I used 8.11) and gstreamer plugins, which you must have done. The readme mentions to find \'gstreamer-plugins-0.8.pc\' and type this in with the correct path. This is how I set mine up. [code:1]export PKG_CONFIG_PATH=\"/usr/local/lib/pkgconfig/gstreamer-0.8.pc\"[/code:1] That didnt work.. So I tried.. [code:1]export PKG_CONFIG_PATH=\"/usr/local/lib/pkgconfig/gstreamer-plugins-0.8.pc\" [/code:1] and finally gtreamers website reckons to: [code:1]export PKG_CONFIG_PATH=/usr/local/lib/pkgconfig[/code:1] then \'./configure --etc -etc --etc\' and that sorted it for me |

thanks a lot man.. with the informations you gave me, I found that my default PKG_CONFIG_PATH was /usr/lib/pkgconfig but GSTreamer was installing its files in /usr/local/lib/pkgconfig. All I had to do was # cp /usr/local/lib/pkgconfig/gst* /usr/local/lib/pkgconfig/ # ldconfig and then ./configure.... thanks |

np.
Glad to help out, took me a while to get it working. Ive compiled all my programs from source since installing 10.2 and Ive found pkg-config to be a pain in the **** for a few things. Just for the record, the xine engine works perfect on my system, even when there a lot of stuff going on. Hope gstreamer sorts your stutter probs |
