If you haven't already, you should read the fink faq (http://fink.sourceforge.net/faq/index.php?phpLang=en) and the page from the fink documentation regarding X11 (http://fink.sourceforge.net/doc/x11/index.php). They have lots of information concering common problems getting X11 up and running. Also, fyi, you can use apple's X11.app with the fink installed tools, instead of XDarwin. Just install the applex11tools packlage with fink

I got the same error about not being to able to start X Server. I had to export $DISPLAY =:0.0

Now I have "segmentation fault"

Any suggestions?

Thank you!

By far the easiest way I've found is to use Fink Commander from http://finkcommander.sourceforge.net.

In the Fink tab of the preference panel, you must check "use unstable" to have Amarok as an option.

There are a couple of small caveats that I can think of, probably trying to get it to install the libxine1 package before you try Amarok is the chief one.  Also, I recall having to re-run the Amarok install a couple of times for some reason, I think it would install a bunch of packages, then fail with some phony error, run it again, it does another bunch of packages, fails, then it completes, I might be lying though.

I have 1.4.4 running on an Intel MacBook, seems to work well so far, I've had it crash once after right clicking an item in the playlist window to remove from playlist, and it doesn't want to deal with my iPod apparently, but so far so good otherwise.

I've got Amarok to compile, its to get it running now! Might retry again.

What's better via fink or like this:

I installed amarok via fink an everything seems to work fine. (amarok 1.4.4.)

Except one point: i can't build a collection.
Whenever I hit the rescan button:
amarok:  [CollectionDB] SQLITE_SCHEMA error occurred on query: SELECT COUNT( url ) FROM tags LIMIT 1 OFFSET 0;

Any ideas? Thanks

EDIT: I got a new Macbook last week. One of the first things to do was compiling amarok of course :)
I get the exactly same error on the macbook. So i think this is problems more people should have.

I just installed amarok on my macbook using fink and x11, but I would like to use the option for mysql instead of sqlite. On the http://amarok.kde.org/wiki/MySQL_HowTo, it says to use the configuration ./configure --enable-mysql and then reinstall amarok. How would I go about doing this?

You could try editing the file /sw/fink/10.4/unstable/main/finkinfo/kde/amarok-core.info and changing --disable-mysql to --enable-mysql. Then recompile amarok with fink. You will need to install mysql first.

If everything goes well, that should work. If not, well, you'll need to figure it out, or ask RangerRick (who maintains the amarok package) to make a sql-enabled package. If you need help, try #fink on freenode.

Let us know if it works

I tried doing that, however on the Collections section of settings, there is still no option to change the database.

Did you check the output of configure as it's being run by fink? It's possible you need to "export SQL=/sw/..." or something like that so it can find where fink installed mysql. Did you get any warnings or errors when fink was installing?
