Still no MusicBrainz-Button

Mon Oct 31, 2005 2:56 pm
Hello,

i have tried a fiew time to install the MusicBranz-Libery to use the option to get the id3-tags by using the MusicBrainz-Button. But it doesnt work... i have no Idea.

WHat I have done 5 minuts ago:
First I have removed Amarok with YUM
Then I have installed following packages:
- libFLAC4-1.1.0-4.2.rhfc3.at.i386.rpm
- libmusicbrainz20-2.0.2-0.0.3.kde.i386.rpm
- libmusicbrainz-2.1.1-1.i386.rpm
- libtunepimp-0.3.0-0.fdr.0.3.i386.rpm
- libtunepimp-devel-0.3.0-0.1.fc4.i386.rpm

THen i have installed Amarok with YUM again.
But the button is still gray.

I have no Idea.... does anyone know the error I have done?

Thx
Greetz

It is very probable that you installed the very same version of amaroK that you just removed. And as the musicbrainz stuff is not loaded as a plugin, amaroK just works as before -- totally ignoring that you have all the necessary prerequisites for musicbrainz queries.

Is kde-redhat in the list of your yum repositories? If not, then getting amaroK from there might solve your problem. Check http://kde-redhat.sourceforge.net/ for instructions how to set this up.

If there is no other amaroK package for your distribution then the only way to get get musicbrainz support is to compile it from source. First remove your already installed amarok package with yum. Get version 1.3.5 of the source package, do
tar xzvf amarok-1.3.5.tar.gz
change to the newly created directory, do
./configure && make
there, and after doing
make install
as root you should be able to use amarok with musicbrainz support.
Perhaps it is still necessary to install some additional *-devel rpms for amarok to compile.

Maybe your libtunepimp library is not compiled with mp3 (mad) support?

I never tried it with Red Hat / Fedora, but I had this issue with (K)Ubuntu. To get it working, I had to install the mad and mad-devel packages first (or libmad, or ... whatever fits with your distribution) and then recompile libtunepimp, so that it would have mp3 support.

I also recompiled amarok after that...

Hope this helps you a bit further in case you didn\'t find a solution for your problem yet...

I had the same problem in FC4. I don\'t think the kde-redhat project will offer a good solution (I could be wrong though).

The solution I found to work was to install the *-devel rpm\'s for libmusicbrainz, libtunepimp, and a few others.

Then compile/install amarok-1.3.5 from source and all works beautifully.

Good Luck.

Can you be more specific about how you got amarok to compile with musicbrainz support? I have been trying all day, and can\'t seem to get a compile when I enable the musicbrainz suport (it compiles nicely otherwise). I tried both the musicbrainz rpms and the source, but with no success... help! I\'d love to use the musicbrainz features!

I\'ve been having the same problem. I\'ve been installing and reinstalling rpms for amarok, libtunepimp, etc, etc. Isn\'t there just a location where amarok keeps all its configuration files about what plugins are installed? Then wouldn\'t it be possible to delete any leftovers, reinstall amarok and it\'ll run like its the first time and detect the musicbrainz plugins?

The problem is that musicbrainz is not a plugin. Support for it has to be compiled into amaroK. In order to do this, the libtunepimp and libmusicbrainz development libraries must be installed when compiling amaroK. the ./config script will automatically build support of the development libraries are present, so the problem can be two things

1) If you are compiling from source, amaroK cannot find the dev headers. An ldconfig might help, but make sure you have the -devel packages installed.

2) If you are installing from rpm, no amoutn of installing or re-installing will fix it if the packager did not build the packages against libtunepimp. musicbrainz support will not work until wither the packager fixes the problem or you compile amaroK yourself.
