Amarok just skips every track

Fri Dec 02, 2005 12:25 pm
Amarok wouldn\'t play any track, it just keeps skipping until the end of the playlist. I tried every output plugin I could install, but the problem persists.
It seems like a great piece of software, so would appreciate the help to make it play.
I run Suse10.
Thanks.

Can you play your music files (I guess mp3s?) in other applications than amaroK? If no, you should install the needed codecs, as apparantly amaroK is not able to play the format at the moment.

(maybe have a look at the FAQ)

Yes, if you\'re running SUSE, you need to install the group of packages that supports mp3 playback, as it has been disabled by default.

yes, I can play my files in xmms, for example. I know about this issue in SUSE, but it\'s not the issue in this case :-/

Try this!

1. Install apt packages from Suse CD
2. alt+f2 - kdesu kate /etc/apt/sources.list
3. copy\'n\'paste of a good sources.list
4. apt-get update && apt-get dist-upgrade (as root)

Yeah, this will update all your system, but after this things should work fine... B)

I have the same problem, but do not understand the solution. Sorry, I am a newbie. What am I supposed to do with all these lists of packages? I\'ve tried running them from a shell, but that\'s not right!?!

err - that\'s the mad files for XINE
now it works perfectly for me .
Just make sure that if you used the Helix plugin before, that it didn\'t mute the PCM volume (it\'s a bug w/ Helix)

Re:Amarok just skips every track

After getting a bit more help Ive discovered that those \"lists of files\" are packages to be installed with a program called apt-get. This is a debian packaging program which I think is a bit similar to the interface you get through yast. I preferred not to go down this route on my suse machine, so instead installed some packages from the packman repository. In an effort to get mp3, wma, AAC (and mpeg, mov and wmv) files to work I installed just about every package that sounded like it might be even remotely involved! Consequently I have I do not know which packages did the job, put suffice to say I have all of the aforementioned file type now playing!:P
