trouble with encoding

Mon Dec 05, 2005 9:37 pm
Hi,

I have trouble with editing tags, and displaying non-latin1 characters in sidebar window.

Amarok changes tags to unreadable strings, also some characters don\'t display properly in sidebar (those are polish and japanese fonts).

I use Hunky Sans (modified Bitstream Vera - added central european chars) fonts (set up in kcontrol), my windowmanager is fvwm2 and Breezy Badger runs the whole business. I tried using normal sans, verdana, arial etc.

Same thing here. things show up fine in either konq or amarok or just parts of amarok but never do they work everywhere.

exactly the same problem.

Using utf8 on kde and fat filesystem, track names have no problem.
After changing the setting in settings window (*) no problem in some parts (like now playing or player window) But characters are not displayed correctly in some other places (like collection view or tag columns of current playlist)

interestingly, if I change an irrelevant tag of a not-correctly-displayed file, every part of amarok displays the characters correctly, even after closing amarok. I guess this has to do something with database. Also I only tested this in 1.3.8, and I don\'t know if it is fixed or not in development version.

(*) I read in a relevant bug report that this option is removed. This would render amarok unusable for non-ascii files. If this decision is based on addition of an \"automatic character detection\", situation is no better because I have never seen automatic character detection that works.
