Installing Taglib 1.4

Fri Dec 16, 2005 1:33 am
I\'m having problems playing some of my .mp3s. Amarok crashes right away when I attempt to play them. I\'\'ve tried arts, xine, and gstreamer engines with no sucess. The songs do play in xmms, and from some investigation I think that the taglib is crashing Amarok because it doesn\'t like the tags on some files. I have taglib version 1.3.1 on Kubuntu 5.10.
Taglib 1.4 isn\'t in the repositories for this distro. My main question is, if installiing taglib 1.4 will fix the crashing, how do I install taglib 1.4 from the source and have amarok use that library? I\'ve seen other people who have had problems with 2 versions of taglib installed.

I\'m new to linux, especially installing from the source. Step-by-step instructions would be helpful.

Thanks, and by the way, Amarok is a great program!

Yes, TagLib 1.4 will fix these issues. Kubuntu made a bad packaging mistake, bundling amaroK with TagLib 1.3.

Make sure you that you uninstall the old TagLib! Having both versions together won\'t help.
