Problem Building Collection

Thu Dec 22, 2005 2:17 pm
I am running Amarok 1.3.6 on Mepis (Debian Etch) and using SQLite as the database. My mp3\'s are located in folders on a machine running CentOS 4.2 and shared using Samba. The Samba shares are mounted on the local machine from fastab and my user on the local machine has read, write and execute permissions to the files and directories in which they are located.

When I attempt to build my collection some entire directories are skipped (although selected) and some songs in other selected directories are added while others in the same directory are not. For example Van Halen: Love Walks In is added while Van Morrison: Tupelo Honey (in the same directory) is not.

What gives?

HELP!!! Please. This is driving me crazy. Somebody must have a notion about what is wrong.

In search of a solution I put all of my mp3\'s in a single directory on my server. Then I removed any spaces from the file names and replaced them with underscores. This solved most of the problems (amarok, kde, linux do not like spaces in file names). Even after that I have issues like this:

10-ol__55_320_lame_cbr_ex.mp3 does not show up in the database (it is a valid mp3 file and plays in amarok and xmms), while 11-midnight_flyer_320_lame_cbr_ex.mp3 appears in the database. I have also been using juk and find the same problems there with the same files as well.

Thanks and this is a very minor deal compared to you having a blessed Christmas.
