using Suse 10.0.
first of all, I removed Amarok 1.3.1 (the version came with suse 10.0) then I tried installing Amarok 1.3.7: (Building From Source) got this configure error: checking if C++ programs can be compiled... no configure: error: Your Installation isn\'t able to compile simple C++ programs. Check config.log for details - if you\'re using a Linux distribution you might miss a package named similar to libstdc++-dev. checked and I have libstdc++-devel installed (tried re-installing that in Yast-same results) any help would be much appreciated |

Why don\'t you simply use a package:
http://linux01.gwdg.de/~pbleser/rpm-nav ... nd/amarok/ Have fun

Have you looked into config.log for a more detailed error message?

gcc was already installed...
I seemed to have solved the config error - i was missing gcc-c++. Configure is able to finish now but it can\'t see gstreamer!. i get this message at the end of configure: The optional GStreamer-engine will not be built. If you want to use the powerful GStreamer multimedia framework with amaroK, please download version 0.8.6 or higher from http://gstreamer.freedesktop.org/ If you are sure GStreamer is already installed then there is most likely a problem with your pkg-config setup, see amarok/README I have installed gstreamer-plugins-extra-mad-0.8.11-3.x86_64.rpm and typed gst-register in the console. here\'s what the readme says: INSTALLATION-FAQ ================== Q: I have the required version of GStreamer installed but configure doesn\'t find it! Q: I have pkg-config problems. A: Here\'s an extract from the PKG-CONFIG man page: pkg-config retrieves information about packages from special metadata files. These files are named after the package, with the extension .pc. By default, pkg-config looks in the directory prefix/lib/pkgconfig for these files; it will also look in the colon-separated list of directories specified by the PKG_CONFIG_PATH environment variable. So, do export PKG_CONFIG_PATH=\"/path/to/gstreamer-0.x.y.pc\" and reconfigure. i\'m not sure what it means but i tried typing: #PKG_CONFIG_PATH=\"/path/to/gstreamer-0.x.y.pc\" #./configure and i get the same results. |

...that should have been
#PKG_CONFIG_PATH=\"/path/to/gstreamer-1.3.7.pc\" #./configure |

If you do
rpm -qa gstreamer\\* you should see several packages ending in -devel listed. If this is not the case, install every such package for your distribution you can get hold off. Then if you do rpm -ql gstreamer-blah-blub-devel for each of them, you should see a file ending in .pc listed. Let\'s say, this file is in the directory /usr/local/lib/pkgconfig. Then you would set the variable as follows: export PKG_CONFIG_PATH=/usr/local/lib/pkgconfig before re-running configure. Good luck! |
