memory is filled up to 100% while playing

hello,
amarokapp uses more and more memory while playing. It\'s always the same wether i listen to local ogg, mp3 or radiostreams(ogg/mp3) .

I use the shipped with amaroK 1.3.1 from openSuSE 10.0. german version. As audioengine i only have the option to use helix or none (well - i made i fresh installation of xine, so perhaps that\'s why it isn\'t offered as choice)

with kSysGuard FOUR amarokapp use from start each about 40 to 60 MB, two increase their amount of memory constantly until their is no more. This works for hours, because i have 1,25 GB of RAM - so it took a while to notice. when all is filled up my system is slowed down til it is nearly frozen - (mouse-movement looks like a boring slide-show).

I use OSS, because the ALSA doesn\'t work with my hardware - a known bug since SuSE 10.0.

I have no fear of reinstalling amaroK / to compile the last stable source-code, i\'d just like to know before I do - if there\'s another explanation within amaroK, or if it is caused outside of amaroK, OSS / Helix or whatever.

thanks in advance for ideas/solutions

after complete reinstallation and xine-support - i compared the memory-usage with the helix-engine\'s one: quite interesting.

only 2 processes are active instead of 4.

with the helix-engine two of the four processes increase without pause their memory usage

the two proc. with the xine-engine are stable.

so i\'m quite happy - it works

have a nice weekend,

I\'m running Amarok 1.3.8 on SuSE 10.0 with KDE3.5.1 and experienced the same memory issues using the helix engine. Have swapped to the xine engine and memory use is still increasing but much more slowly than with helix. More importantly I\'ve only got one amarokapp running now instead of the four I had when using helix. Thanks nergal.
