is there a way to clear my entire collectin database so i can rebuild it. every song was appearing twice in my collection, i know why it did this which i can sort but i need to clear my collection first. any ideas?

I did this by going into the config and un-selecting all directories to scan, then do a scan, then go and select the correct directories again and scan again. Seemed to do the trick.

Menu -> Tools -> Rescan Collection.
