I\'m using the svn from 1/26/06 and whenever I try to edit tags it seems to take FOREVER to write the tags. I changed all the tags on a 10-track album, flac encoded, and it took approximately 30 minutes to write the tags! any ideas?

have you tried it again with the most recent svn? Sometimes the svn is broken, that\'s why it is called \"developement\" version.

honestly, it took so long to figure OUT how to install the svn version that I\'m afraid to update it.
I\'m beginning to think that this doesn\'t have anything to do directly with amarok, as it takes forever to change tags using Music Manager also. anybody have any thoughts on EasyTag? |

Tagging FLAC files generally takes like forever, due to the bad metadata format, which requires rewriting the whole (huge) file.
However, you could contact the TagLib authors, perhaps there are some speed ups possible.

I thought that might be the issue. shame it can\'t be fixed, but...at least now I know. I thought it might be something worse.
I do notice, though, that the FIRST time I edit ANY tags it takes what seems like it takes a while, but subsequent edits within the same amarok session seems to go quickly...like I would expect. am I being a big baby about not updating the svn? how do I find out about what changes take place with each new svn? thanks! rick |

There\'s a script that automates the svn build process. See http://kde-apps.org/content/show.php?content=27313

That\'s the script I used, but what\'s missing is a COMPLETE list of dependencies. I found a few different lists with different dependencies listed and after running the script no less than 15 times and troubleshooting each of the errors (they were ALL down to dependencies that weren\'t specifically listed anywhere), I finally got the script to finish and get a complete build.
It works great (except for a couple of weird things: MusicBrainz seems useless, TagGuesser ditto, and the weird tagging issues), and I\'m afraid to update it and break it! Seriously...I thought I might not be able to listen to music (ok, at least not like I had been used to with Winamp) in Linux and I was pretty bummed about that as I\'m pretty adamant about using Windows only for music production (no real choice about that). Before I try to update the svn, I\'d like to know what stands to be gained rather than randomly updating and risking breakage. |
