amarok hangs for some seconds on track play

Hi there!

I tried everything in order to eliminate this temporary total hang of amarok when it starts a new track, but no success so far. I use mysql as DB backend on Ubuntu 6.04 (dapper) with amarok 1.3.8, own kernel 2.6.15.1. Using gstreamer with alsasink, buffers are ok, alsa is configured with dmix. All this runs on an IBM R40.

The program hangs for 2-3 seconds when it starts playing a new track. Not only the UI, but the track does not start playing immediately either. It\'s even worse when I try to play something through samba from a winXP box, it starts playing as soon as from a local disk, but the whole gui hangs for some time.

Any guesses? :(

Perhaps something wrong with your GStreamer. Give xine-engine a try.

Oh my, didn\'t think gstreamer had still problems like this... xine is ok, thank you.

Still, the samba problem persists. Audio starts playing immediately, but amarok GUI hangs for around 30 seconds. Filesystem is cifs, file was rw.

Oh no, this samba problem is sporadic. Usually only occures on first play... well, had the same problem with XMMS.
