hello - i\'ve been trying without avail to get the Amarok 1.4 SVN installed on my debian (testing/unstable mixed) system. i figure this might be the problem - as it seems like the SVN .deb requires old versions of kdelibs along with many others. this doesn\'t seem really sensible to me, that the newest version of amarok would have older depedencies than the current version that i can apt-get from debian unstable - but is this indeed the case? or is there some fix to make dpkg realize that the dependencies aren\'t missing, they are just installed as newer versions?
thanks, Krishna |

I do not know anything about those 1.4SVN debs, but maybe this helps.
There are a whole bunch of possible solutions. For example: If the packet sources are available, rebuild it on your machine and the dependencies will be according to your system (or at least you can then adjust them). See Debian new maintainer guide for details on that. It\'s no big deal to do such a \"backport\". Install from source without bothering about debs (that\'s what I do for all my up-to-date software, where I want control the features and cannot wait for someone to build it). marcel |
