I have this same problem, but allow me to provide more detail.
The exact error is: \"Could not start process Unable to create io-slave: klauncher said: Unknown protocol \'audiocd\'\" I am using Fedora Core 4, amarok 1.3.8-1 from the standard Fedora Extras repositories built against KDE 3.5.1-01, and the gstreamer engine. I am able to play mp3s without a problem. I have tried rolling back to 1.3.7 without positive results. Other KDE applications are capable of playing the CD so the error seems amarok isolated. I am assuming, since amarok was working previously, that there was a KDE update that occurred that broke amarok. I like amarok, so I miss it and would like to determine a fix. Any help would be appreciated. |

amaroK really isn\'t designed to play audio cd\'s, and a lot of people have trouble with it, mostly when they don\'t use amaroK in KDE or with the xine engine. This is because amaroK uses the KDE media handlers and if they aren\'t present or not compatible, you can\'t get playback.
Why not rip the CD and make mp3\'s, so you can use amaroK as it was designed to work? The experience is much better. |
